About Angela Cartner
I really began taking an interest in all things creative when I was working overseas. I suppose, though, it began earlier than that because of my Mother, who used to knit when we were children, and also make some of our clothes. I learned to knit first, then crochet, and even made a few clothes for myself. My interest in art came later. My first recollection of producing something artistic came when I learned the art of making stained glass panels and fused glass items. My initial journey into the unknown world of oil painting came soon afterwards, after a brief encounter using watercolours. However, it was soon after I had been given the opportunity to experiment with oil paints, that I really became excited about painting. I really enjoy the way the oil glides over the canvas and how it is so forgiving. I can scrape it off and start again, I can rub it out with a rag, or let it dry and then paint over it! I have more recently discovered the beauty of using soft pastels and pastel pencils. I can't say I have a real preference with regard to subject matter; it depends what I feel like painting or drawing at the time. I am very fortunate to have the support of my husband, family, and friends who actively encourage me to keep painting.
